Resting peacefully on the shores of Loch Carron, Plockton is a quiet little village with a special charm.

The climate of Plockton is relatively mild given its exposed positions to the Gulf Stream: palm trees even grow in Plockton! Home to the TV series “Hamish Macbeth” (starring Robert Carlyle), and even featuring in the classic film “The Wicker Man” (1973, starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee and Britt Eckland), most of the houses in Plockton date from the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries. The village itself was a planned fishing community. Today it is home to a National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music, located at the prestigious Plockton High School.

For a fortnight in late July, the annual Plockton Sailing Regatta is held. Plockton is just a few miles from Kyle of Lochalsh and is easily reached by car; it is also easily reached by rail, as Plockton has its own railway station on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line.
